Common Questions

Personal Training FAQsWhere is PM Fitness based?
PM Fitness is based in a private personal training studio in Wheathampstead, near St Albans, Hertfordshire. The studio provides a quieter, more personal and supportive environment than a busy commercial gym. Especially if you feel busy gyms feel intimidating or you're unsure where to begin.
Who do you typically work with?
I mainly work with adults who want to become stronger, fitter and more confident in their body, particularly people in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond. Many clients also come to me with stiffness, recurring aches or previous injuries that need to be considered when exercising.
What happens during the 2-session trial?
The two-session trial costs £75 and gives us time to understand your goals, health history and how your body moves and what potentially is leading to any aches and pains or stiffness. I assess areas such as mobility, strength and movement before explaining what I believe would be the best approach for you. I also include a health assessment and food diary analysis if you require.
Do I need to be fit before starting?
No. You do not need to get fit before seeing a personal trainer. Your programme starts from your current ability and progresses gradually as your strength, fitness and confidence improve.
Can you help if I have aches or pains?
Yes. Many PM Fitness clients begin training because aches, stiffness or previous injuries have made exercise more difficult. Where appropriate, I use corrective exercise and exercise therapy principles alongside strength and fitness training.
Is PM Fitness just corrective exercise?
No. Corrective exercise can be an important starting point, but it is only part of the process. The longer-term aim is to build a stronger, fitter and more resilient body that supports everyday life and long-term health.
What is exercise therapy?
Exercise therapy looks at the body as a whole and identifies the potential root cause of aches and pains by performing functional muscle testing. Specific corrective exercises can then be used to improve movement, mobility, stability or strength before those improvements are integrated into normal training.
Can you help with posture and movement problems?
Yes. I regularly assess areas such as hip position, shoulder movement, foot mechanics, posture and joint mobility. The aim is not simply to create a temporary change, but to reinforce better movement through appropriate strength and exercise.
Do you provide nutrition advice?
Yes. Nutrition support is available alongside personal training. The focus is on realistic improvements such as protein intake, food quality, hydration, meal structure and creating habits that can be maintained long term.
Do you offer training between personal training sessions?
Yes. Depending on the package, clients can be given exercises or a programme to complete between sessions. This helps reinforce what we are working on together and allows progress to continue outside the studio. Also included in the packages is a habit based programme that tracks 4 different areas and helps to create a more sustainable approach for success.
Do you offer personal training for older adults?
Yes. PM Fitness works with many adults in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond. Training can focus on maintaining strength, mobility, balance, confidence and the physical capacity needed to continue enjoying everyday life.
How do I get started?
The best place to start is the two-session PM Fitness trial for £75. It allows us to understand where you are now, what you want to achieve and whether PM Fitness is the right fit for you.
